The People Behind Uncommon Community
Uncommon Community began as a idea shared by two friends over a cold beer. We enjoyed meeting together to discuss theology and the role it played in everyday life. We began to wonder...would others be interested? Could we involve a larger group of people, churched, unchurched, and the curious...people interested in having real conversation about life, faith and God in a friendly environment? As we began to dream and plan, a vision emerged and Uncommon Community was born.
Who are these friends? Let us introduce ourselves...
Brew Theology KC -
Johan Tredoux
Theologian, Chaplain, Author, Blogger and Swimmer
Johan loves talking with people about the mysteries of life and faith, and how they intersect their stories. He loves exploring life at the crossroads of psychology and theology and tackling tough relational questions about God and faith and how they impact everyday life.
A native South African, Johan has been on the frontline as a pastor and pastoral counselor in the Midwest, taught Relational Theology at the college and graduate level, and served as an Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Theology to Ph.D. students in Nairobi, Kenya. As a Board Certified Chaplain, Johan puts theology to the test in real life as a Chaplain for a national Hospice company. He spends his time in that place where real-life crises and faith collide, prompting deep questions about who we are, who God is, and how to bring healing and hope in our common struggle as human beings.
A prolific reader and writer, Johan's book, "Mildred Bangs Wynkoop: Her Life and Thought" is a thoughtful examination of Wynkoop's Theology of Love, a topic which resonates deeply with him. You can find his book here on Amazon.

Eric Amundson
Host, Facilitator and Road Cyclist
Your host and behind the scenes guy, Eric Amundson, is a Shawnee, KS native and business entrepreneur. Eric grew up in the the church but started a new spiritual journey one evening, not long ago, when Johan challenged him, “Why do you believe that?” That simple question, and the inability to answer it, started Eric on a journey of discovery. What was the foundation of his beliefs, how did they come to be, were they based on solid theology or were they just baggage picked up along the way?
That quest led to the birth of Uncommon Community and our monthly events, Brew Theology KC, a casual conversation among friends seeking a better understanding of life, their beliefs and the mysteries of God.
